Why is the PTSA important?
The Elton Hills PTSA provides educational experiences for your child and supports the Elton Hills teachers with valuable resources for the classroom. The PTSA organizes fundraising opportunities that provide additional resources unavailable through the Rochester School District Budget. Annually, we provide teacher support funds, playground/recess equipment, and also funding toward student enrichment such as field trips and classroom projects.
Why should I support the PTSA?
The PTSA is a platform for parent and teacher involvement within our school. Members are needed to guide the organization’s priorities and goals. By joining, you can provide a voice for the many decisions made by the PTSA. These decisions include finding the best avenues for fundraising and how to allocate any funds raised among others.
Why do I need to pay a fee to join the PTSA?
Elton Hills PTSA is a not-for-profit organization that is local, but is also part of a larger state and national organization. We have to collect dues ($15) from our membership, as stated in the organization by-laws. The majority of your paid dues remain local and support us here at Elton Hills. A small portion of the dues goes to support the state and national organizations that work to address laws that affect our schools and our education system. However, we retain all of the money we raise within the school, and we make our own decisions regarding our budget.
Can I only join at the beginning of the year?
No! We welcome new members at any time!
But, I think I’m too busy to join the PTSA…
Becoming a supporter of the PTSA does not require you to attend meetings. The PTSA meets once per month on the 2nd Monday and also provides a virtual option, so there is not a large time commitment to attend. By being a paid member, you now have the opportunity of voting on items at the meetings.
Beyond the meetings, it is up to you to determine how much/often you would like to volunteer for any of our continuing efforts.
My student is a 4th or 5th grader and won't be in this school much longer.
That makes you extremely important! You have witnessed multiple years at this school and will have great insight to what's most important to you as a parent and your child as a student.
I'm still not sure...
Please join us at one of our meetings. Membership is not required to attend meetings and we welcome new faces and new ideas any time!
Every 2nd Wednesday until school year ends
In person in the Elton Hills media center and also virtual via Zoom.
