It's Happening! Coming Summer 2025, playground replacement!
Thanks to last year's referendum passing and also decisions the district has made on school facility management and budgeting, school playground replacement is now part of the school district budget. The condition of both Elton Hills playgrounds put them high on the replacement list. Thanks to the work we already had underway on the design process and decisions, the Elton Hills PTSA was given the go-ahead to continue design and also look at the 'Big Toy' playground as well! At March 18th's school board meeting, the proposed design bid was approved by the school board. Replacement should be complete by the end of the 2025 summer, hopefully in time for the start of the school year!
Both playgrounds will have the pea gravel surface removed and a poured in place rubber surfacing installed. This is the current district requirement and standard for making a playground more accessible/inclusive.
Small Toy
The small toy design includes inclusive components such as the spinner and see saw and also some ground level interactive components. Multiple slides and climber types provide different levels of interaction and fun.
Big Toy
The big toy design has a larger and smaller slide and also many climbing components.
What happens to the money that was raised?
When the PTSA first started fundraising for the playground, we were unaware of the potential of the cost being covered under district funding. Once the referendum passed and news started being shared of this potential, we put a pause on any playground specific fundraising. All funds raised thus far are earmarked for playground or school improvements. While the PTSA uses funds raised on other areas such as field trips, student enrichment, teacher assistance, among others, these funds will still be held specifically for any school equipment/enhancement needs that may arise.
